Indian gold discounts surge to seven-month high as China premiums decline

Physical gold dealers in India have reported discounts reaching a seven-month high, hitting up to $14 an ounce over official domestic prices. This surge in discounts is attributed to the escalating local gold prices, which reached a record 64,460 rupees per 10 grams this week. In China, gold premiums witnessed a decline, ranging from $12 to $30 per ounce over global spot prices, a decrease from the previous week's $25 to $35 premiums. The People's Bank of China's influence on gold imports is seen as a factor affecting premiums, while Hong Kong dealers maintain bullion prices close to global spot rates with premiums ranging from $0 to $2.50 per ounce. Singapore premiums remained relatively stable at $1.25 to $2.25.
